The 1st generation Verus has to be tethered to the DLC with an interface cable, and requires "personality keys" to be changed, depending on Year, Make, and Model. The Verus Pro has a Bluetooth dongle that plugs into the DLC, and does not require "personality keys". The 1st gen. Verus reached it End-of-Life support in 2018, I think. Meaning it can no longer be updated. The Verus Pro has just reached its End-of-LIfe support, with update 19.4. Both platforms are Windows XP based. Functionally, both versions have the same capabilities.
