2009 dodge journey R/T new egr still getting error code was created by xcountryx
I have a 2009 Dodge Journey R/T with V6 3.5L. I was getting error codes for egr valve and #1 fuel injector. Replaced with new egr valve and all 6 fuel injectors. Still getting error code P1404. I'm getting a surge feeling while driving at cruise. Ping sound from engine. Any help would be great. Thanks

Theory of Operation
The EGR valve has a position sensor and the EGR position rationality is designed to make sure that the valve moves freely within its operating range. Closed valve position reference check verifies that the valve is within its allowable upper and lower limits. The EGR position rationality test looks for a sustained error relative to commanded valve position.
- When Monitored:
With the engine running.
- Set Condition:
The EGR flow or valve movement is not what is expected. A rationality error has been detected for the EGR Open Position Performance. Two trip fault.

Thanks for your reply. Sorry for my ignorance. Do I need someone to run the rationality test to reset this code? Is there a way for me to do this? I do not have a scanner. Should I just take it to a mechanic and ask to have the test ran? Thanks again.

The rationality is monitored any time the engine is running. The code sets when the EGR position sensor reports a position that the PCM is not expecting for two consecutive drive cycles. Codes can be cleared by disconnecting the battery cables from the battery, and touching them together for a few seconds.
Since you have, already, replaced the EGR valve, the problem is likely a wiring problem. Verify the integrity of all the wires involved in the diagram. Check for 5 volts on PIN 2. Check for good ground on PINS 3 & 4. Pin 6 is a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM), power side switched control. Pin 1 is the position signal. It will vary between 4.5v and 0.5v, depending on valve position.

The code setting criteria, also, refers to EGR flow. It my be worth while to check and make sure that the EGR passage ON THE INTAKE MANIFOLD SIDE of the valve is not clogged.

P1404 is an error code you get when the PCM detects high voltage on the closed position sensor for the EGR. High voltage can indicate a short in that circuit. You replaced the EGR but may still have a wiring or sensor problem.
The driving conditions you mention can mimic an open EGR, but the PCM may be running the engine lean based on the high voltage reading (P1404).
What code did you get for that #1 injector.
Clear all codes using your code reader or scan tool... or disconnect the neg battery cable for 5min. Re Scan for codes.
What are your fuel trims for both banks with engine at operating temp and O2's in closed loop.
What codes are you getting after the reset?
